Tawse “Robyn’s Block” Chardonnay 2013
Pale lemon with a golden hue, pure and clean. Tranquil but substantial. Morning breeze bringing in refreshing moisture giving off this peachy, citrusy, and buttery note on a chalky, smokey and kind of steely undertone. It is all delivered in an elegant and carefree manner. High dose of citrus and tropical fruit notes fill the palate and coats the mouth with its round, full, but not heavy body. Finish is a long and silky - almost icy - delight. Can’t help but being reminded of a Grand Cru Chablis.
This wine is well balanced, highly concentrated, and elegantly delivered. Grapes harvested from biodynamically farmed 34-year-old vines from Robyn’s Block (Named after the eldest daughter of Moray and Joanne Tawse). Fermentation is completed in French Oak and spent 14 months of barrel aging to harmonize all the elements. 5 years in, still very youthful. Just can’t get enough of it.
One of the only two Ontario Wineries I have visited so far. I tasted nearly 20 of their wines including sparkling and ice wine. They were all very good but I felt that this Chardonnay stood out so well! Their Gewürztraminer packs a flavour profile that is totally different from what I have experienced, which is also quite note worthy. I will definitely come back for more!
